            ActionAid works in over 40 countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas, helping people break free from poverty. We work side by- side with the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people to fight for freedom from hunger, a sustainable income, quality education for all, women’s rights, and to build resilience to emergencies and disasters. Whatever we do, whether it’s training women to run their own businesses, equipping young people through vocational training, or lobbying a government to provide a fair education system, we make sure that every pound we spend goes as far as possible.

In all Oxfam’s actions, the ultimate goal is to enable people to exercise their rights and manage their own lives. Oxfam works directly with communities and seeks to influence the powerful to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them.

One in ten of all pensioners are extremely isolated, and over 500,000 describe the TV as their main company. Contact the Elderly works to relieve the acute loneliness and isolation of the many frail elderly people who live alone and have limited support from family, friends and statutory services.  Through our network of incredible volunteers we provide regular support to over 3,500 older people.  Each month, volunteer drivers from within the local community take elderly guests to the home of a volunteer host, where all enjoy afternoon tea and the warmth of friendship for a few hours.

The work of ASCT is centred in the province of Rizal on the outskirts of Manila.  The majority of children supported by ASCT live in shanty type accommodation in the shadow of Payatas rubbish tip. Our main aim is to provide the opportunities and skills through education for deprived children to become mature adults, able to take a responsible place in family and community. We believe that every child should be given the chance to go to school and reach their full potential.

Working with local young people, the Barn Youth Project provide three Youth Café sessions and one football session every week. This project creates a safe and interesting environment that engages local young people from 8-18 years old that typically feel disconnected for their home, community or society. Skills and interests are developed including everything from clay modelling to playing drums to volunteering as youth leaders. Building self confidence, supporting the transition from dependent child to independent young adult and offering otherwise unavailable opportunities is what the Barn Youth Project has been doing successfully for the last eight years.

Each of the 400 Citizens Advice Bureaux in England and Wales is an independent charity providing free advice and assistance, and each depends entirely on grants and donations. Camberley CAB helps prevent child poverty and homelessness in Surrey Heath (north west Surrey). We advise families how to manage their debts and how to deal with problems like unemployment and family disputes. We help families apply for government welfare benefits and we provide food-bank vouchers if they need them. Last year we helped 5,000 people, including over 200 who were homeless or who were expecting to be made homeless.

Carers Support Runnymede offers free independent, information, advice and support to Carers in Runnymede. Carers provide UNPAID care by looking after a partner, friend or family member who needs support because of age, physical or learning difficulties, or illness including mental illness.
Information, advice, advocacy, a listening ear and emotional support, home visits, assistance with phone calls and letter writing, help at meetings with social services and health services, help obtaining services for the person they care for, regular social activities and enabling carers workshops, monthly support group and quarterly newsletters ""you are like family. Down's Heart Group     www.dhg.org.uk

            Down's Heart Group is a small national charity supporting individuals with Down's Syndrome and associated heart problems and their families. 47% of people born with Down's will have a heart defect, ranging from a small hole which will close itself to major problems where surgery is too risky. Most are able to have successful cardiac surgery and go on to lead really fulfilled lives. DHG helps parents with phone and email support, provides information, newsletters and links families together. We have bi-annual family weekends with a conference and activities for the youngsters. We run entirely on fundraising and donations.

Dramatize Theatre Company    www.dramatize.co.uk  

Dramatize provides theatrical workshops for individuals with learning disabilities in local schools in and around Surrey. Our workshops have enabled all ages and abilities to progress within social activity, core skills and improved their personal development. Our fun, vibrant workshops give an insight into the theatre industry covering the backstage technical skills as well as the performance. Each workshop adapts to needs of each organisation making everyones experience unique. Our fun and exciting workshops provide different opportunities, making theatre accessible to all.

East Surrey Domestic Abuse Service   www.esdas.org.uk       

We are an independent charity that provides practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse and their families in the East Surrey area. As part of our work we also fundraise to be able to go into schools and deliver domestic abuse awareness and healthy relationship lessons to help young people recognise and prevent themselves being in unhealthy relationships.

FoodCycle builds communities by combining volunteers, surplus food from supermarkets, and spare kitchen spaces to create tasty, nutritious meals for people at risk of food poverty and social isolation.

At least 4 million people are affected by food poverty in the UK, yet millions of tonnes of edible food go to waste each year. Food waste and food poverty shouldn't co-exist in the same communities, so we're doing something about it!

Since we cooked our first meal back in May 2009, our national network of 1,000 volunteers have served over 45,000 meals using over 40,000 kilos of surplus food.

Our charity supports families in the home for 2-3 hours per week.  Volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgemental practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope, which benefits both parents and children.  Home-Start improves social networks, reduces difficult behaviour on the part of the child and improves physical and mental health. We are looking for a grant to run a Preparation Course in 2013 to train 10 new volunteers for our Family Support Scheme.  Home-Start Surrey Heath has been in the Lightwater/Frimley/Camberley/Deepcut areas for over 22 years now.  The charity recruits and trains volunteers to help families with young children.  Our volunteers visit families in their own homes for a couple of hours each week.  Families are supported in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness (including post natal depression), and disability.  The Preparation Course costs the charity around £2500 each year, which runs one day a week for ten weeks.

KeepOut - The Crime Diversion Scheme           www.crimediversionscheme.org.uk    

KeepOut is unique. This is the first ever crime diversion scheme to be delivered by dedicated teams of serving prisoners – managed by civilian staff – inside UK prisons. Prisoners are trained by KeepOut to run intervention programmes for young people aged between 13 and 17 who are either at risk of entering the criminal justice system or are already involved in crime. In Surrey we operate within HMP Coldingley and HMP Send and around 700 Surrey young people take part in KeepOut workshops annually. Diverting young people from crime, in ways that train and rehabilitate prisoners, is what makes KeepOut unique.

Leatherhead Youth Project works with young people in Surrey at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training) or entering the Youth Justice system.  We aim to support young people in a holistic and relational manner, and assist them in making a successful transition to adulthood.  LYP co-produces bespoke, innovative youth projects and activities that respond to the needs of young people and the local community.  We provide for the educational, training, physical, moral, emotional, intellectual and/or recreational needs and general welfare of persons resident principally in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Link Leisure enables people with learning disabilities to develop their potential and enjoy socially inclusive, fulfilled lives. We are a vital service providing social, sport and creative activities for nearly five hundred people around Woking.
Our service users have a wide range of learning disabilities. The most common is Autism, but also prevalent are Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, diabetes and global development delay. These disabilities are not well understood in mainstream society, and can prevent our service users from leading a “normal” life. We pride ourselves on catering for everyone no matter how challenging their disability or behaviour."

We are a UK based charity providing livestock, tools and training to those living in poverty in Africa. We give 'a hand up, not a hand out', enabling poor rural farmers to work their way out of hardship towards a sustainable future.  We give training on gender issues, health, hygiene, livestock management and sustainable organic agriculture techniques, meaning families can produce three meals a day with surplus to provide and income for health care, education and other necessities.

The death of someone close can affect you in several ways - emotionally, physically, socially and in many practical areas of your life.
We exist to help anyone bereaved by death to understand their grief and cope with their loss. We provide bereavement advice, support and counselling to adults, children and young people living in the boroughs of Guildford, Surrey Heath and Waverley.  Our services are free of charge and include individual support, bereavement groups and a friendship group.  We also provide training and advice to other professionals and organisations and are available to help school or workplace communities affected by a death."

Step by Step was set up 20 years ago, by a concerned member of the community who found a young person sleeping rough on the steps of her local church.  We help over 850 young people every year who are facing the risk of homelessness.  We do this by offering drop in services, family mediation, specialist counselling, accommodation and training in life and education or employment skills to help young people back into studies or work.  We also run a popular Peer Education programme where young people go out and tell their story in an honest and engaging way, to schools and community groups.  By educating the next generations about the risks of alcohol, drugs or family breakdown, the young people we support, inspire others to make the right choices so that they can be true to themselves and reach their full potential.

Millions of young people globally are forced to live and work on the street.
At Street Kids International, we help these young people to unlock their potential. We do this by providing practical, imaginative and easy-to-understand business and money management training that can help street youth to get off the street, build their own business and earn a sustainable living.
Our approach is unique because we help street youth to help themselves. We draw upon the resilience, skills and abilities of street kids in a way that gives each young person the power to take control of their future."

SYC support over 1000 young people living in Surrey aged from 4-18 years who care emotionally or physically for a family member who has a long term illness/disability, mental health or drug & alcohol problem.
We offer overnight breaks, issue based groups and workshops, fun days out, a chance to have their say on issues, limited funding, a magazine & website, support in their school/colleges & advocacy with social care to get the right care packages. We provide free transport to enable young carers to have time out from their caring role, meet others in similar situations and provide information and empathy to these complex family situations."

The Amber Foundation            www.amberweb.org    

Amber exists to help young people transform their lives.  Young people aged 17-30 come to us without work, without self-esteem and without any sense of direction. Almost all are long term unemployed, are homeless, have a history of drink or drug related problems or have been involved in crime. 
With their length of stay being around six months, Amber becomes their temporary home. Having no cooks, gardeners or cleaners our young people are able to gain basic skills and behaviour needed for successful independent living.
In a friendly and structured environment they learn about employment and further education. Interacting successfully and building self worth, they will eventually feel equipped to move on."

The Eikon Charity helps young people in Surrey who may otherwise not have anyone to turn to.  The young people who come and see us face various challenges in their lives from bullying to bereavement, drug and alcohol misuse, family break-down, poor self-esteem and much more.
Our strategy is placing full-time “Youth Specialists”, in to secondary schools to provide these young people with one-to-one mentoring and group work activities.

The Therapy Garden     www.thetherapygarden.org     

The Therapy Garden provides gardening therapy to teenagers with disabilities including Downs syndrome, autism, ADHD and cerebral palsy which means they can't thrive at school. Few gain qualifications and most can't find jobs. We teach a basic horticulture course which helps them become more confident and some to find jobs. Without this help, they are completely dependent on parents and carers and struggle to be part of the community. Gardening is therapeutic, relaxing and gives them young a sense of achievement and self-esteem.

White Lodge Centre supports disabled children, young people and adults, families and carers in Surrey and the surrounding areas.
The centre was formed over fifty years ago by a group of parents whose children had cerebral palsy. Today we support over 2,000 families. Our services are diverse, ranging from nursery education, therapy and leisure breaks for young people to therapy, leisure, life and fitness skills for adults. White Lodge Centre's highly skilled and passionate staff ensure that with support and encouragement disabled people are able to achieve their goals.

WVYP supports young people in Surrey Heath to fulfil their potential.  We run youth clubs, courses such as the Babysitting course, a small grants scheme called StepUp as well as running the Surrey Heath Youth Council.

Woking Explorer Scouts run a weekend camp for Children with special needs every year.
The scouts are buddied with pupils, and look after them for the whole weekend, and take part in typical scouting activities.

We are funding research into the development of new targeted drugs to treat childhood cancers without devastating side effects.
Current treatments were never designed to be used on children and the side effects can include permanent organ damage, hearing loss, and irreparable brain damage.  The current drugs used have an average age of 45 years.
All the research we are funding is being carried out by the Institute of Cancer Research and its clinical partner The Royal Marsden at Sutton."
Princess Alice Hospice  www.pah.org.uk "Princess Alice Hospice is here to provide free, holistic palliative care for patients with advanced illness and those approaching the end of their lives. We aim to enable all patients to have the best possible quality to the end, responding quickly to their needs and wishes.

Shooting Star CHASE is a children’s hospice charity, caring for over 600 families across London, Surrey and west Sussex. We make every day count for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. We walk side-by-side with families who find themselves in unimaginable circumstances, sharing the good times, and helping them through the tough times with practical, clinical and emotional support.

Our services are available 365 days a year, and families receive our support free of charge, in their own homes and communities and at our two children’s hospices, Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford."

At the Surrey Care Trust we help those who have been held back in life by lack of skills or opportunity, low educational achievement or financial difficulty. A major part of our work is improving the prospects of young people through our STEPS education programmes.

Both the STEPS Under16 programme (based in Woking and Staines for year 10-11 students) and STEPS Ahead programme (based in Woking for 16-25 year olds) provide alternative education for young people in Surrey who have struggled in mainstream schools and whose chances of progressing into further education, employment or training would otherwise be limited."

TALK supports about 100 people across Surrey who have aphasia (communication difficulties) following a stroke.  We run 6 community groups located in Ashford, Cranleigh, Guildford (2), Walton on Thames, and Woking (Knaphill). 

Aphasia does not affect your intelligence, although people with aphasia may have difficulty with speech, understanding, reading or writing.  Aphasia can be mild or severe and can leave you feeling frustrated, depressed and isolated.

In our weekly groups, people with aphasia receive support from speech-therapist trained volunteers to enable them to practise their communication skills in a supportive environment.  We help people to rebuild confidence and self esteem, and encourage people to become socially independent.  We provide information, advice and ongoing support for individuals, families and friends of people with aphasia."

The Sayers Croft Trust aims to involve the local community, especially young people, in the enjoyment and care of the environment. The Trust aims to make all the facilities of Sayers Croft available to those who may otherwise be unable to access them due to physical, financial or social disadvantage. The Trust exists to serve and support the local community and takes an active role in education and conservation. By providing fun, adventurous and challenging activities for young people we hope to create good relationships, increase self esteem, and foster a sense of responsibility and community spirit.

The Therapy Garden is a small registered charity in Normandy, Surrey, that provides gardening therapy to young people with learning difficulties, and adults with mental health challenges, physical disabilities and other special needs. Experience shows that gardening has physical, psychological and social benefits that can transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of the community. It combines being outdoors with the opportunity to learn a range of social and practical skills from how to interact with others to taking responsibility for tending plants and vegetables. For all ages, gardening therapy promotes healing, independence and self esteem.

Learning for Life helps to empower women by providing them with education and skills that could be used to gain employment opportunities. Also helping children and those in poverty, natural disaster relief is provided. A large part of the work is also to raise awareness within the UK to the situation that others are in.

International Justice Mission is a human rights organisation that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to ensure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to promote functioning public justice systems.

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children serves to eradicate all instances of child cruelty in the United Kingdom. They aim to provide aid and relief to neglected, sexually abused, physically abused, disabled children, as well as children in foster homes.

SOS Children is an international organisation that works to help abandon children find homes and families. The have special villages that they build for their children as well as nurseries and schools. They have helped over 78,000 children and young people find homes and better lives, and they continue to do more.

Oasis Childcare Centre is a charity set up in 1996 that believes that every child has the right to security, love and a stable environment in which they can develop to their full potential. They aim to work with those in critically dysfunctional family situations, some single parent families, those suffering with drug or alcohol addictions and severe financial hardship. They aim to provide a haven for children and parents alike where they try to look at and solve the root of these situations as opposed to just healing the symptoms.

The Fountain Centre is a local charity for people living with cancer, and their families and carers. Situated in St Luke’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, it offers care, reassurance, encouragement and information for those dealing with cancer and the impact it has on their lives at diagnosis and beyond. The Centre aims to ‘make our [their] service available to all patients at the point they decide that they need our help’, giving their visitors ultimate freedom in their choices and decisions, but with the best support and advice.

Cranleigh RDA is a small branch of a wide-spread UK charity, offering opportunities for all ages of disabled people. These opportunities include various horseback and carriage activities which are advantageous to their disabilities. It gives life changing physiotherapy and a degree of independence that they would not usually have in their daily life. This charity relies entirely on donations from the community, and it is run completely by committed volunteers. Cranleigh RDA needs more funding to pay for the health and care of their nine horses and ponies, and the maintenance of the run-down stables, which urgently need improving.

Home-Start supports families facing difficulties who have at least one child under 5. Home-Start helps young children have a better start in life, and have a better chance to turn out as productive and responsible citizens. Home-Start is a non-judgemental organisation, and helps any parent who is struggling, for any reason. Some of those reasons may include; multiple births, an abusive partner, isolation, mental or physical handicap, or the pressure that loss of employment brings to a family. Help comes in the form of a home visiting volunteer who knows the pressures of family life and can offer 3-4 hours help each week. Home-Start has operated in Farnham since 1998, Haslemere from 2002 and Godalming from 2011. In 2013 they are expanding into Cranleigh to cover the whole of Waverley Borough. They have helped over 500 families and 1200 children to achieve a good, independent and productive life

The halow project is dedicated to creating opportunities and supporting young people aged 16-35 with a learning disability so that they are able to live independent, meaningful, fulfilled lives and become more involved in their local community. We are a young, vibrant, growing organisation, passionate that the people we support have the right to expect the same life experiences and chances as any other young person and we are committed to making this a reality. halow offers a number of services including 1:1 support for young people, social activities, parent support, work initiatives and a project that focuses on the future goals of young people.
