Surrey School Children Initiative to
Award £20,000 to Charities
Surrey school children are being given the chance to nominate their favourite charities to receive donations totalling £20,000 in a brand new initiative - MTG Youth for Charity - launched today (Monday 13th June).
Sponsored by the Surrey offices of Mackrell Turner Garrett who are managing the whole initiative, MTG Youth for Charity aims to raise awareness amongst students, businesses and the wider general public about the good works that charities do, helping people to gain better knowledge of how charities can be supported.
All of Surrey's state and independent schools are eligible to register for the scheme by Monday 4th July, with chosen schools invited to put together teams of year 10 & 11 students at the start of the autumn term to nominate their preferred charities to receive cash awards of either £10,000, £5,000, £3,000 or £1,000 (x2).
Each team will be expected to undertake extensive research on their chosen charity, providing full and detailed justification on why they deserve such an award and what the charity would do with the money if it won. Following presentations by the shortlisted school teams, winners will be announced and awards made at the beginning of December 2011.
MTG Youth for Charity is designed to link closely with school curriculums, allowing participants to demonstrate that their school produces responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society, links learning to life outside school and encourages enterprising partnerships with local business and the community.

"We are keen to learn about what young people think of charities and to encourage other businesses to consider donating some of their profits to charities that really need help."
MTG Youth for Charity is the brainchild of Surrey businessman Ian Vincent, co-director of Vincent Homes, who has a history of supporting charities worldwide. The bespoke Housebuilder has donated the £20,000 cash award for the Surrey schools initiative and will take an active role in the selection of nominated charities.
Ian Vincent comments: "The remit for MTG Youth for Charity is wide as it will be heavily dependent upon student participation. We could see support for charities that help people, both in this country or abroad, and charities that benefit our planet, so that people aren't starved or their homes washed away. The opportunities are endless."
